Dear
Colleagues,
A combined
email this week from Mr Ashley and myself involving 80’s UK game shows.
The first is based on a game called Catchphrase which had two contestants who would have to identify the
familiar phrase represented by a piece of animation accompanied by background
music.
The
following website can be used to create a rebus which students then have to
solve.
For example:
I’m going to
assume that everyone in this school is old enough to remember Blockbusters. For
those who missed out on this very British institution, the concept is simple.
2 teams (or
individuals) compete against each other to create a solid line from one side of
the board to another (shown above). As long as they keep getting questions
right, they keep on going. The board contains several hexagons with a letter in
the middle, each letter representing the first letter of the answer. Quite
simply; this is a fun and interactive game that can be used in any lesson.
Follow the link below and either create your own or search the database to find
an already made game.
Both games
can be good for to recap on key words or phrases and the longer quiz busters games
can be good to cover the key words from an entire unit which is great for
revision with external and internal exams fast approaching.
Let me know
if you have any other ideas or suggestions on how to use these games in the
classroom by commenting on the blog post or emailing me directly. Have a
great weekend.
Best regards,
Neil and Ashley
