Business

  1. Previous minutes reviewed. FDO asked if our school was supposed to be running a BTN session in the near future? Question for NGR.
  2. Teaching and learning activities aligned to outcomes of the Student Survey. Many ideas shared:
Group Work
  • Tic Tac Toe (Noughts and Crosses) as a source of questioning. Students to develop and share questions to quiz others using the game format. Questions can be developed using ‘Question Matrix’ (see attached email. More information to follow in next week’s T&L email from FDO).
  • CAP (Consider All Possibilities) – students cover an entire topic with post-it notes and place them on the board. All ideas are collaborated and decided which ones are most important to least important.
  • Summary Square (more information will be sent by PKU in this week’s T&L email).
  • Debating – students can take topics to discuss as a debate. Contact ASH to observe.
  • Role Play Activity – Students given time to role play and create a short scene. Students can watch the performance and ‘swap in’ to see how various people/actions can completely change things.
Revision Techniques
  • STAD quizzes/questions – e.g. complete question at the start. Learn some things. Do the same question at the end to show progress.
  • Note Taking can be done by highlighting key words and asking students to replace them with other key words of their own. Swap with a partner to check understanding.
  • Traffic Light – areas needed to focus on when revising. FDO to develop T&L weekly email on questioning.
  • Peer Teaching – students are given a topic they feel confident with and prepare a presentation for the rest of the class. Can be used as a starter for a continuation of lessons.

3. Decision to take CPD books from the library and focus on what each feels is most relevant at the time.

4. T&L Weekly email:
  • W/B 02/03 – PKU – Summary Square T&L idea.
  • W/B 09/03 – FDO - Questioning
  • W/B 16/03 – ASH – Structuring an essay using debating.
