9th January 2015
Dear Colleagues,
Welcome back, I hope
this week has not been too tiring and you have a great 2015. This week the teaching and learning email is
based on an idea from the student survey which was completed before
Christmas. The student said how they
liked it when they could ask questions at the end of the lesson and get answers
from the teacher at the beginning of the next.
One way of doing this is through an Exit Ticket.
This is suitable for
classes of any size as each student receives an exit ticket at
the end of the lesson, meaning it works extremely well as a plenary
activity. My suggestion on how to use it effectively is to hand them out in the
last 5 minutes of the lesson. Make students aware that they cannot leave the
class until they have completed their Exit Ticket. This plenary keeps students seated until the
end of the lesson and upon leaving the classroom, students can hand them to you
as you stand by the door. Ask students
to write their name on the back of the ticket so after the lesson you can gauge
whether students might need some more help on particular aspects of the taught
material. This can be especially useful
for planning your next lesson and you can use their questions as a starter for
the next lesson.
You can access download copies of Exit Tickets by clicking on the links below, One of these is a Word Document which can be edited
so it more specifically meets the needs of your subject and the other is a PDF document. If you have any questions or suggestions
please email me.
